Official Opening

oscailtOn Friday 18th June, Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath was officially opened jointly by Éamonn de Buitléar, the local well known musician and natural historian, and Denis de Búrca, who, at 8 years old, is the oldest pupil in the school. While the doors of this magnificient new building have been open to pupils for the past two years the official opening was an occasion of great pride for its founding committee.

The children displayed their talent for singing and reciting poetry as each class performed for the parents, friends and invited guests. The chairperson of the Foras Pátrúnachta, the Bord Bainistíochta, Coiste na dTuismitheoirí and Múinteoir Eoghan spoke of the great efforts made by the bunchoiste to set up this new school with a state of the art building. They also highlighted the contribution of each and every parent in the school. They acknowledged the hard work of all staff members.

Éamonn de Buitléar entertained us with tales of growing up with Irish and performed and tune or two on his harmonica. Then he took up the position for cutting the ribbon with Denis de Búrca.

Once the school was opened, the children led the way into the school and all present followed. We were treated to wonderful food and refreshment by Coiste na dTuismitheoirí.

It was a very memorable day for all involved and we would like to thank all those who helped in ensuring that it was such a success.

Tour to Kilmullen Farm

Feirm

The children were invited to visit Kilmullen Farm before Easter. They had a fantastic time and learned a huge amount about a working farm. They were asked what their favourite part of the tour was and they found it very hard to choose between watching Tipp round up the sheep, feeing the lambs, watching the sheep being sheered, feeding the pony, looking at the hens and their freshly laid eggs, the scarecrow and the puppet show. We all, parents, teachers and children alike had a wonderful experience.

We would like to thank Mairéad and Eamon for their hospitality and all their effort to create a wonderful experience for the children. To see photos of the day, please click on the photo link at the botom of the page.

Open Day & Skipathon

We held an Open Day in the school on Saturday 13th June from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. The sun came out and provided a fantastic afternoon for us. The school was buzzing with activity and celebration. The children enjoyed a variety of activities from face painting to art and crafts, from skipping to races and games brimming with excitement.

Not only did the children enjoy the day but it was a great opportunity for the parents to have a look around the school, enjoy a coffee and a chat and return to their school days with egg and spoon races. Who says children are competitive? Nothing compared to the adults when that whistle blew!

Greystones Cancer Support Art Group displayed their art upstairs in the school, while enjoying the wonderful views. We would like to thank Valerie and the art group for participating in this event.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we would like to thank all those who came to visit us. We would like to thank our Parents' Association for their hard work in organising this event. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!

A good start is half the battle

It is incredible that we have reached the end or our first term in Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath. So much has been achieved since a Gaelscoil was envisaged for Greystones.

Our Set-Up Committee worked exceptionally hard to ensure that the school would be established and opened in time. We are very grateful for all your work.

We opened on 1st September 2008 welcoming 24 children on the first day. The parents have supported greatly in ensuring that the children have a wonderful Gaelscoil to attend and we really appreciate it. They are certainly taking the Gaeilge on board without any difficulty.

new principalOur First Day

Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath opened its doors for the first time on 1st September 2008. Our 24 children happily joined their classes – Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class. They were joined by brothers, sisters and parents. We were delighted to see Grandmothers and Grandfathers here also.

We are very proud of our wonderful school and would like to thank all those who helped to get it ready. The children are very happy with their school and are really trying to use their Gaeilge.

They are used to the school day and the school work. Múinteoir Rita and Múinteoir Eoghan (principal) are working hard to increase the children’s level of Irish – and they are making rapid progress. Great Irish can be heard from the children during the day.

The staff would like thank all the parents who chose to send their children Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath for their support and encouragement. We would also like to thank the set-up committee for their dedication and enthusiasm in setting up such a wonderful Gaelscoil for those living in and around Greystones.
